Damian Serrano

Director

Damian Serrano is a Director at CNM’s Los Angeles office with over eight years of experience in financial services risk consulting. He has led numerous engagements across all lines of defense, including Entity Risk Assessments, Internal Audits, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Compliance, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), and independent validations of management action plans. His responsibilities span planning, execution, and reporting, with a focus on optimizing internal controls, identifying improvement opportunities, and delivering value-added recommendations to mitigate organizational risk. Damian’s clients range from community banks to large financial institutions.

Most recently, Damian developed and executed RCSAs for a large banking institution’s Loan Operations Department, covering areas such as collateral management, tax monitoring, construction loans, hazard insurance monitoring, special assets, and document retention. He has also conducted audits in areas including, but not limited to, Vendor Risk Management, ALM/IRR, Wire Operations, ESG/Climate Risk, the Community Reinvestment Act, Commercial Lending, Credit Administration, and Compliance.

Damian also supports a financial institution’s Professional Practices team by executing Quality Assurance Reviews in alignment with their Quality Assurance Improvement Program methodology

Before joining CNM, Damian was a Senior Risk Consultant at Ernst & Young (EY), where he led various operational and regulatory compliance audit projects. He assessed key processes and risks, offering actionable recommendations. His projects at EY included ATM Operations, Internet and Mobile Banking, Remote Deposit Capture, Branch Operations, Small Business Lending, Loan Originations, Loan Servicing, Special Assets, and both origination and forgiveness phases of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). He also collaborated with the Data and Analytics team to incorporate operational insights during the design phase of automating the branch operational audit process.
