Erik Blyar is a Director in Orange County with over 10 years of experience in in public accounting. Erik’s expertise centered around client service across a broad range of industries, including involvement in transactions and projects such as initial public offerings, debt modifications and extinguishments, equity and preferred stock transactions, revenue, leases, Sarbanes-Oxley readiness, and 404(b) implementation, financial reporting, external audit assistance, and project management.

While serving in CNM’s compliance and risk advisory service line, Erik led multiple Internal Audit SOX Compliance projects, which included preparing the initial SOX compliance program roadmap and timeline and driving the project to completion, testing and reviewing internal controls, identifying and assisting management in remediating deficiencies timely, serving as the primary point of contact for external audit to relieve management’s administrative burden. Assisted and advised companies through the pre-IPO process, including facilitating SOX overview training, Internal Control Gap Assessments, drafting Process Narratives, flowcharts, and risk and control matrices. Further, Erik assisted with drafting and creating internal controls to mitigate exposed financial reporting risks, derived Material Weakness Remediation plans, and kept remediation action plans on track and implemented timely. In addition, Erik led multiple first-year SOX Compliance 404(b) implementations, which included documenting internal control testing utilizing the external audit team’s control testing template, providing process improvement recommendations and control remediation action plans, and ensuring internal controls were operating effectively as of fiscal year-end and served as the primary liaison between external audit and the client to coordinate PBC requests and reduce overall internal control testing sample sizes, and ensured timely resolution of issues identified during the audit.

While serving in CNM’s accounting and transaction advisory service line, Erik led multiple engagements centered around ASC 606, which included drafting technical memorandums and contract matrices and preparing financial statement disclosures. Additionally, Erik led multiple ASC 842 implementation projects that involved validating the ASC 842 system, identifying configuration issues within the ASC 842 system, preparing manual ASC 842 lease schedules, analyzing service contracts for potential embedded leases, and drafting technical memorandums. Furthermore, Erik’s additional areas of experience include IPO readiness (e.g., financial reporting uplift to Reg S-X, technical memo assistance, S-1 project management, etc.), debt and convertible debt issuances and modifications, financial statement and disclosure drafting under GAAP and IFRS, convertible preferred and common stock issuances, restructuring and termination costs, segment analysis, business combination and asset purchase accounting, spin-off transactions, goodwill and long-lived asset impairment, evaluating the accounting implications of investments (preferred stock, note issuances, warrants, and common stock), and examining investments for potential embedded derivatives.

Prior to joining CNM, Erik worked at Deloitte as an audit senior, where he planned, coordinated, and executed financial statement audits in various industries with revenues ranging from $20 million to $2.6 billion. He has provided services to public and private companies, including assisting a company through the IPO process through their initial 10-K filing. He has worked extensively on real estate sales and the cost of goods sold. He has recognized using a relative sales value method approach, SEC reporting, ASC 606, intangible assets, and equity method investment accounting.
